Help us offer “Peace of Mind”

In partnership with Aviva, Peace of Mind has launched a new Crowdfunding Campaign. A message from our Directors and Founders:

We want to end “lockdown” for everyone in Scotland.

When Scotland went into lockdown as a result of the Coronavirus, many people experienced the social exclusion and isolation that has become a way of life for disabled people in Scotland. Social care support tends to be delivered in small, often fleeting, visits focussed around some key tasks such as helping someone get out of bed, dressed, fed and then undressed and back to bed.

These fleeting visits can be the only contact people have with anyone outside their own house. They aren’t supported to go for exercise, fresh air, take part in interest groups or clubs or meet others from their community, all the things that we missed during lockdown.

Now that lockdown is easing and life is returning to “normal” in Scotland, this same pattern will continue for many disabled people.

Peace of Mind is determined and passionate about changing that. People should be supported, encouraged and enabled to connect with their communities and with your help, we will achieve that.

Every penny donated to the Peace of Mind programme will support individuals who are socially excluded or isolated as a result of disability, ill-health or other impairment (including age related illness such as Alzheimers and dementia) to come together in a community setting, meet others and take part in social activities.

We’re already very active in the Scottish Borders with one group but we know from talking to people all over Scotland that this story is repeated the length and breadth of the country so through the Crowdfunding Campaign, we’ll be launching more and more groups in more locations across Scotland to ensure that lockdown really is lifted for everyone.

If you’re a business and would like to offer to sponsor a local community group, donate equipment or resources, offer your staff as volunteers to assist people to engage in community activities, we’d love to hear from you. Peace of Mind is about so much more than just raising money, it’s about transforming people’s lives and we’d love to work with you in any way we can to offer that.

If you’re a local interest group, let us know what you do, when you meet and whether we could assist people who are excluded or isolated to join in.

If you’re an individual who’d like to share a hobby or passion with someone else in your local community, register your interest and we’ll help match you with people who share your interests.

Please share our campaign with your family, friends, neighbours and networks and lets make sure that lockdown is lifted for everyone in Scotland.

Thank you,

Colin & Jim
